At Tucson Budo, we train and teach two independent and distinct Japanese martial arts--Aikido Kokikai and Shinto Muso ryu jodo. Students may enroll in one or both schools.
At Tucson Budo, we teach Aikido. Aikido is one of the modern Japanese martial arts originally developed by Morihei Ueshiba primarily in post-World War II Japan.
Shinto Muso-ryu is said to be the oldest style for using a stick (jo) in combat in Japan. It was founded in the early 17th century by Muso Gonnosuke Kasuyoshi, an exponent of Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto-ryu.
Here at Tucson Budo, in Tucson, Arizona, we practice and teach Kokikai Aikido and Shinto Muso ryu using modern teaching methods with emphasis on the Mind-Body-Spirit connection, or Ki, Ken, Tai, Ichi.
Having a more traditional view of martial arts, our dojo is not a business nor do we participate in competitions or tournaments; and while training can be serious most of the time, the overall atmosphere of the dojo is a joyful practice filled with respect and support for each other.
Our dojo is a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and dilemma-rich environment. While learning self-defense, some of the side benefits experienced along the way are discipline, self-confidence, stress management and calm center.
So, if you are interested in learning how to protect yourself, and at the same time learn more about who you can be, we invite you to contact us and speak with one of our teachers to begin your journey.
If you have questions about the opportunities available to you in our program, send us a message. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
